"Backyard Haven" --- video & photos --- designed & constructed by Don's Ventures L.L.C. : Don's Ventures L.L.C. built this secluded "haven" in a residential backyard to screen off the area from the neighbors & shelter wildlife. The water feature provides "white noise" that screens out most neighborhood sounds. Plantings were done with seven species of hardy native ferns surrounded by low maintenance hostas. Why not have us create an idyllic setting in your yard? We'll use our botanical knowledge and construction skills to conjur up some "green magic" for you.

Garage to Sunroom remodel : The the back half of this double deep garage of this 1970s vintage Middleton, Wisconsin ranch style home was converted from a bare stud storage area to a comfortable south facing sunroom. It now has two sliding glass doors (one fixed), 2 large casement windows, an entry closet, a garage entry door, broad stairs (for seating) and 2 twelve foot oak shelves running along 2 walls and a ceiling fan. The clients feel so comfortable in this conversion, they call it their getaway "cottage." Don Ventures, L.L.C. was the sole contractor for this remodel.

Deck improment : This vintage deck in Verona was wobbly & had seen better days. The number of joists was doubled, several uprights were replaced and set in concrete. New, naturally-stained cedar decking was added in an asthetically pleasing diagonal pattern. A matching custom railing was added with contrasting decorative trim with a leafy design. The result pleased the client so much, I was invited back for champagne to christen this classy, new "entertainment center" addition to the house. (Note: Proper christening may take more than one visit. ;-)

Cabinetry : Built cabinetry in a combination entry room and laundry. "Cubbies" and cabinets were built for childrens' coats & backpacks. Shelves were built to accomodate laundry baskets & detergent, etc. An old utility sink was replaced with a smaller one set in a vanity style cabinet with a clothing rod above it for hangers.

Carport style shed addition : 12 by 20 roof shed roof was added onto an existing 12x28 foot shed in Hayward, Wisconsin to form a "carport" over a concrete slab. New roof was tied into the old one at peak. Vertical "cripples" rise up from original wall to provide additional mid-rafter support. Roof material chosen was brown metal & was blended into existing asphalt shingles at peak.

Woodwork restoration & painting : The painted trim on this stately queen of a stucco home in the Vilas Park area of Madison, Wisconsin was alligatored and peeling badly. All wooden surfaces were taken back to bare wood. Screen frames were painted with the gorgeous, durable (& very expensive) paint available from Fine Paints of Europe. Eaves were covered with Sherwin-Williams Duration product.
